Title: Scalable quantum information processing based on ion trap and photons

Ion trap has been one of the strong candidates for storing and processing quantum information between multiple quantum bit (qubits) due to its long coherence time and fully controllable degrees of freedom. On the other hand, photon has been an excellent medium for connecting remote qubits. Various basic quantum operations in ion trap and photonic qubits have been demonstrated in the last decade, and recently entanglement of remote ionic qubits mediated by photons has been demonstrated, which is a useful component to achieve scalable quantum information processing (QIP). However to build a scalable QIP system, there are several technical challenges to overcome. In this talk, I'm going to introduce recent progress in ion trap and photonic QIP, and discuss how we can solve these challenges using various methods.
